Job Purpose

The Food Safety Inspector is responsible for carrying out official food controls, risk-based inspections, and auditing activities across the food supply chain in the State of Qatar. The position ensures full compliance with MOPH food safety regulations, GSO/QS standards, Halal requirements, and import/export protocols to protect public health and prevent foodborne hazards.

Key Responsibilities & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)1. Regulatory Inspection & Compliance Enforcement

• Conduct risk-based inspection visits to food businesses (restaurants, catering facilities, retail, food processing plants, warehouses, and ports of entry) in accordance with MOPH guidelines and ISO/IEC 17020 inspection standards.
• Enforce legal requirements, exercising judicial enforcement powers where authorized (issuing violation notices, seizure of unfit food, or initiating administrative closures).
• Inspect food packaging and labeling compliance against GSO/QS 9 and GSO/QS 150 standards (e.g., dual Arabic/English labeling, production/expiry dates, ingredient lists, country of origin, and Halal certification details).
• Verify proper storage, temperature logs, hygiene standards, pest control practices, and FIFO stock rotation.

2. Sampling, Testing & Portal Traceability

• Collect representative food, water, and surface swab samples according to official sampling protocols for laboratory analysis.
• Utilize the electronic food safety management portal to log inspection findings, verify supplier registration status, and track food consignment clearance.
• Inspect imported food shipments at border ports (sea, air, land) to verify health certificates, phytosanitary documents, and compliance before national release.

3. Outbreak Investigation & Emergency Response

• Investigate customer complaints, suspected foodborne illness outbreaks, and instances of food contamination or adulteration.
• Coordinate immediate detention, recall, or destruction procedures for unsafe or non-compliant food items at the owner's expense.

4. Reporting & Stakeholder Technical Guidance

• Prepare concise, evidence-backed inspection reports and formal non-compliance notices within required regulatory turnaround times.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to Food Business Operators (FBOs) regarding HACCP principles, hygiene practices, and regulatory updates without compromising enforcement objectivity.

Candidates must hold one of the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in:
• Public Health
• Food Sciences
• Veterinary Medicine
• A closely related field directly relevant to Food Safety
• Diploma in a relevant food safety/inspection field.
