Design Engineer – SOLIDWORKS (Elevator & Metal Fabrication)
Job Summary
We are hiring a Design Engineer (SOLIDWORKS) to design and develop elevator components and metal-fabricated assemblies. The role includes 3D modeling, 2D production drawings, BOM preparation, design revisions, and coordination with production and installation teams to ensure manufacturable, accurate, and high-quality outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and manage 3D models and assemblies in SOLIDWORKS for elevator parts and fabricated structures (frames, brackets, panels, supports, doors, enclosures, etc.).
- Produce 2D manufacturing drawings (dimensions, tolerances, notes, welding symbols where applicable).
- Prepare and maintain BOMs, cut lists, and material specifications (steel grades, thicknesses, finishes).
- Ensure designs are manufacturable: sheet metal considerations, bending allowances, hole patterns, fasteners, weld joints, and assembly access.
- Coordinate with production team on fabrication requirements (laser cutting, bending, welding, machining) and revise drawings based on feedback.
- Support site/installation needs with shop drawings and technical clarifications.
- Apply internal standards for part numbering, drawing templates, revisions, and document control.
- Maintain accurate revision history and communicate changes clearly to all stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement: standardize modules, reduce cost, improve strength/weight, and optimize assembly time.
Requirements (Must Have)
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Design / Mechatronics or equivalent experience.
- Strong proficiency in SOLIDWORKS (parts, assemblies, drawings).
- Solid understanding of manufacturing drawings and detailing.
- Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication-ready drawings.
- Ability to produce clear BOMs and work with production teams.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Experience in elevators, metal fabrication, steel structures, or industrial equipment.
- Knowledge of GD&T basics and fit/clearance practices.
- Familiarity with PDM/document control (SolidWorks PDM or similar).
- Ability to design jigs/fixtures and support manufacturing process optimization.
- Experience with AutoCAD (2D) is a plus.
Working Conditions
