Bonus is not bonus if base is way below market rate
Associate (Former Employee) - San Francisco - February 7, 2022
Management takes pride in the company being “performance first”. What it really means is they take out a significant chunk of the compensation as bonus that’s paid out once a year, while the base salary that’s left is way below market rate. This compensation structure encourages stiff hierarchy and bureaucracy because of the lack of transparency (employees don’t even get to know their next target bonus).
Pros
Immense resources to learn. Market leader and trendsetter.
Cons
Low base salary, bureaucratic, lack of transparency on employment side of things.

Terrible place to work. Would advise young people to take their career elsewhere
VP (Current Employee) - New York, NY - February 2, 2022
Terrible place to work with no respect for work-life balance. Incredibly political and awful working conditions. People are overworked & isolated to the point of breakdowns. Firm-wide promotion on social issues is fake: diversity & inclusion, women's rights, pay equality, mental wellbeing, eco-friendliness - all is just a PR game looking to attract/retrain young talent. Not an inclusive/progressive company at all. In terms of the work itself, most of the good colleagues quit. The ones that remain are stuck there in a loop, complaining. FTO gives you the illusion of unlimited vacation time but you have to bargain for vacation to be approved and it's not enough to undo the stress and health issues created by working there.
Pros
None.
Cons
Pay inequality, no work-life balance, skills are degraded, no career progression, HR is used against individuals, Lots of injustice dealt with quietly, often restructuring, Depressed colleagues, Lifeless work.

Fun, productive
Maintenance Worker (Former Employee) - Peralta, NM - December 12, 2021
they crush Rock for hot mix and ready Mix, it entails lots of machinery, the foreman is a class act, which makes the day go by fast. And they are on top of repairs to make sure they can run the next day.
Pros
The pay and what benefits they do have
Cons
Not enough home time

Confusing Culture
Vice President (Current Employee) - New York, NY - December 8, 2021
Blackrock has an identity problem. Management say they want a transparent and inclusive culture but their actions are opposite. They say they want change but they really want things to say the same without communicating it.
Pros
Benefits and pay is not bad
Cons
Management, difficult to move within the organization

Great place to work and learn
Analyst (Former Employee) - Gurgaon, Haryana - December 4, 2021
BlackRock is a wonderful place to work and learn. Because of the sheer scale of the organization, you get used to working with large numbers and data which is a plus if you ever move elsewhere as it doesn't get any bigger than this. The organization is employee-friendly and provides a decent amount of perks.

Great Company to Work in
Director (Current Employee) - Budapest, Hungary - November 29, 2021
Good culture, good salary. You need to be driven and a fastlearner. Management is a dice-roll.You either get some top industry leaders or an uncaring supervisor. Tech is astounding- so much data and such a big impact you will do.
Pros
massive amount of data. Access to markets.
Cons
stress and extremely long work hours

Good place and lots to learn but bureaucratic
Associate (Current Employee) - New York, NY - October 22, 2021
Good work life balance and flexibility. Lots of smart people and great place to learn. Promotion processes are very political and comp is often adjusted every few years to match market rate.

Great culture, poor pay for long term employees
VP COO team (Current Employee) - New York - September 2, 2021
This company focuses a lot on new hires, especially at the Analyst level. They do a wonderful job of creating an inclusive culture and training and giving opportunities to this class. They do not focus on long term employees and after about 3 years, your pay will be well below industry. Your experience will vary greatly depending on your manager and your team.
Pros
benefits, work-life balance (most teams), brand, reputation
Cons
compensation is lower than competitors, re-orgs happen often

Depends on the team
Analyst (Former Employee) - Wilmington, DE - August 7, 2021
tl; dr - Great place to work, BlackRock as a whole seems to care quite a bit about about the health and well being of its employees. And while experiences vary by team and department, overall employees seem mostly happy Exactly as the title sounds. Some teams have fantastic management and mentoring and others are pure garbage. Like every big company, there are politics and there are people who shouldn’t be in the roles or management that they are. My previous manager never managed ANYONE before and micromanaged so badly it was absolutely unbearable. He ended up completely abandoning his job and multiple team members left or changed teams. I ultimately left. But while my personal experience was awful, this situation seems to be the exception and not the norm. Many people I knew on other teams were mostly happy. The environment itself great with the cafeteria and summer bbq’s on Wednesday’s (at least when I was there a few years ago). There was a ping pong table and people often took short breaks to go play. Benefits and vacation were phenomenal with unlimited PTO and great coverage for virtually everything. Great place to work, BlackRock as a whole seems to care quite a bit about about the health and well being of its employees. And while experiences vary by team and department, overall employees seem mostly happy.
Pros
Benefits, Pto, tech, culture
Cons
Bad team ruins the entire experience; 18 months minimum to change team

Worked there for 2 plus years . No advancement .
Head of Maintenance (Former Employee) - Albuquerque, NM - July 6, 2021
I would not recommend working here . Management has favorites. Talk of promotions and opportunities but when an opportunity or opening appears they keep it quiet and hire out of company or fill the position without letting anyone know. Was fired almost immediately after I informed them of an interview I declined taking the position and was fired from here .
Pros
none
Cons
management/leadership

Great company for entry level to middle management
Vice President, Operations (Current Employee) - New York, NY - May 30, 2021
Great company to start with for entry level job. Company offered unlimited time off two years ago, which is a pro for team whose team members are responsible, and a con if otherwise. Work-life balance has deteriorated when hiring freeze started in 2020 , which means less people to turnaround for equivalent or more work. The culture varies from geographic locations and departments. There are teams willing to put up for more hours to get things done, and teams don't respond to email timely and needs babysitting.
Pros
Recognition of talent, compensation, benefits
Cons
Unlimited time off
