JOB SUMMARY

The Room Attendant is responsible for the cleaning, servicing, presentation, and overall upkeep of assigned guest rooms and designated Housekeeping areas in accordance with hotel standards, brand standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and health and safety requirements.

The role is a key contributor to the guest experience and is responsible for ensuring that guest rooms are consistently clean, hygienic, comfortable, well-presented, and properly equipped. The Room Attendant is expected to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, respect for guest privacy and belongings, efficient work practices, and a high level of professionalism at all times.

The Room Attendant works closely with the Housekeeping Supervisor and other departments to ensure rooms are serviced and released within required operational timeframes and that maintenance defects, guest requests, lost property, and other concerns are promptly communicated and appropriately followed up.

This job description outlines the principal responsibilities of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list. The Team Member may be required to perform other reasonable duties in accordance with operational requirements and business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Guest Room Cleaning & Presentation

  • Collect daily room assignments, keys, work instructions, and relevant operational information from the Housekeeping Supervisor before commencing duties.

  • Review assigned rooms and work priorities, including occupied, vacant, check-out, stayover, DND, and other designated room statuses.

  • Prepare and maintain the housekeeping trolley with the required linen, amenities, cleaning supplies, equipment, and guest supplies before commencing room servicing.

  • Clean and service assigned guest rooms in accordance with hotel SOPs, brand standards, room-cleaning procedures, and established productivity requirements.

  • Follow the correct sequence of room cleaning to ensure consistent standards, efficiency, and attention to detail.

  • Make beds and replace linen in accordance with hotel standards and applicable sustainability practices.

  • Dust, clean, vacuum, mop, polish, and sanitize all applicable room surfaces, fixtures, furniture, floors, and other areas.

  • Clean and maintain guest room windows, mirrors, glass surfaces, doors, handles, switches, vents, and other designated areas as required.

  • Replenish guest room amenities, stationery, supplies, linen, and other consumables in accordance with established standards.

  • Check minibar items and replenish or report discrepancies where minibar responsibilities form part of the role.

  • Ensure all guest rooms are properly arranged, presented, and ready for inspection or occupancy.

  • Conduct a final visual check of the room before completing the assignment to ensure cleanliness, presentation, functionality, and completeness.

  • Report rooms requiring additional cleaning, special attention, deep cleaning, or maintenance intervention to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

  • Perform turndown service where applicable and in accordance with hotel standards and operational requirements.

2. Bathroom Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Thoroughly clean, sanitize, and maintain guest bathrooms in accordance with hotel hygiene standards and SOPs.

  • Clean and disinfect toilets, showers, bathtubs, washbasins, countertops, mirrors, floors, fixtures, fittings, and other bathroom surfaces.

  • Replenish towels, bathroom amenities, toiletries, tissue, and other consumables according to hotel standards.

  • Ensure bathroom fixtures and fittings are clean, dry, presentable, and free from stains, hair, residue, and visible defects.

  • Identify and report leaking taps, blocked drains, damaged fixtures, faulty lighting, plumbing issues, or other maintenance concerns.

  • Maintain appropriate hygiene and cross-contamination prevention practices throughout the cleaning process.

3. Guest Privacy, Security & Belongings

  • Respect guest privacy, personal belongings, confidentiality, and security at all times.

  • Follow established procedures when entering occupied guest rooms, including appropriate knocking, announcing presence, and observing Do Not Disturb (DND) and privacy requirements.

  • Never enter or service a DND room except in accordance with approved hotel procedures and authorization.

  • Handle guest belongings carefully and avoid unnecessary movement or interference with personal items.

  • Report any suspicious activity, security concern, unusual condition, or potential risk immediately to the Housekeeping Supervisor or appropriate hotel authority.

  • Report all lost and found items immediately in accordance with the hotel's Lost & Found procedure.

  • Never remove, use, consume, or retain any guest property or personal belongings.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding guest information, room numbers, personal belongings, and any information observed while performing duties.

4. Guest Service Excellence

  • Greet and acknowledge guests courteously and professionally when encountered in guest corridors or other hotel areas.

  • Respond positively and promptly to reasonable guest requests within the scope of the role.

  • Provide accurate information where appropriate and refer requests outside the scope of the position to the relevant department or supervisor.

  • Coordinate with Laundry/Valet Services regarding guest laundry, dry-cleaning, pressing, or related requests where required.

  • Escalate guest complaints, service recovery situations, special requests, or unresolved concerns promptly to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

  • Maintain a professional, discreet, and service-oriented approach when working in or around occupied guest rooms.

  • Demonstrate genuine care for the guest experience while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

5. Housekeeping Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned guest corridors, service areas, pantries, linen areas, and other designated Housekeeping areas.

  • Collect and dispose of waste in accordance with hotel procedures and applicable environmental requirements.

  • Handle soiled and clean linen appropriately to prevent cross-contamination and damage.

  • Maintain proper separation of clean and soiled linen throughout the operation.

  • Replenish housekeeping pantries and service areas with required supplies as assigned.

  • Keep housekeeping trolleys clean, organized, and appropriately stocked throughout the shift.

  • Return equipment, supplies, keys, and other hotel property to their designated locations at the end of the shift.

  • Support periodic deep-cleaning, preventive cleaning, room projects, and other Housekeeping initiatives as assigned.

  • Assist other Housekeeping team members during periods of high occupancy or operational demand when required.

  • Work efficiently to achieve departmental productivity requirements while maintaining established quality standards.

6. Maintenance & Room Condition Reporting

  • Inspect guest rooms during servicing for visible maintenance defects, damage, wear and tear, or unsafe conditions.

  • Promptly report maintenance issues to the Housekeeping Supervisor and/or Engineering Department through the hotel's approved reporting system.

  • Report damaged furniture, fixtures, equipment, linen, amenities, or other hotel property.

  • Ensure that identified defects are accurately communicated to facilitate timely corrective action.

  • Where authorized, follow up on outstanding maintenance issues before the room is released for occupancy.

  • Immediately escalate any condition that may affect guest safety, comfort, or hotel operations.

7. Health, Safety, Hygiene & Environmental Responsibilities

  • Comply with all hotel health, safety, hygiene, fire, security, and environmental policies and procedures.

  • Use cleaning chemicals, equipment, tools, and machinery strictly in accordance with manufacturer instructions, hotel procedures, and training.

  • Use the correct chemical dilution and appropriate cleaning product for each surface and application.

  • Never mix cleaning chemicals unless specifically permitted by approved procedures.

  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.

  • Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly labeled, stored, and handled.

  • Follow safe manual-handling and lifting practices when handling linen, equipment, supplies, and waste.

  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, spills, damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or other incidents to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Follow fire and emergency procedures and participate in required safety training and drills.

  • Support the hotel's sustainability initiatives by reducing unnecessary water and energy consumption, minimizing chemical and material waste, and following approved linen and towel-reuse programs.

  • Practice appropriate waste segregation and disposal procedures in accordance with hotel requirements.

8. Quality Assurance & Brand Standards

  • Consistently comply with hotel brand standards, Housekeeping SOPs, quality assurance requirements, and room presentation standards.

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail in all cleaning, replenishment, and presentation activities.

  • Maintain consistency in room cleanliness, hygiene, appearance, and functionality.

  • Take ownership of the quality of assigned work and rectify identified deficiencies promptly.

  • Cooperate with Housekeeping Supervisors and quality inspections and implement feedback received.

  • Contribute to positive guest experiences and overall hotel reputation through consistent delivery of high-quality housekeeping standards.

  • Maintain a clean, professional appearance and comply with hotel grooming and uniform standards.

Experience Needed

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • High school education or equivalent is preferred but not essential.

  • Previous experience in housekeeping, hotel operations, cleaning services, or a similar role is an advantage.

  • Previous experience in a hotel or hospitality environment is preferred.

  • Basic understanding of cleaning procedures, hygiene standards, and safe chemical handling is preferred.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and hotel SOPs.

  • Basic English communication skills sufficient to communicate with supervisors, colleagues, and guests.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and presentation.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural and diverse team.

  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures and supervisory direction.

  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain quality and productivity standards during busy operational periods.
