Learning Support Teacher

Head of Learning Support / SEN Coordinator / School Principal

Job Purpose

The Learning Support Teacher is responsible for providing appropriate academic, behavioural, and developmental support to students who require additional assistance with their learning. The role involves identifying students’ individual needs, developing and implementing appropriate support strategies, monitoring progress, and working closely with teachers, parents, and the school's student support team.

Key Responsibilities1. Student Support

  • Provide individual and small-group learning support to students with additional learning needs.
  • Support students who experience difficulties with literacy, numeracy, communication, concentration, organisation, or other areas of learning.
  • Adapt teaching methods and learning materials according to individual student needs.
  • Provide appropriate classroom support while encouraging students to become independent learners.
  • Help students develop confidence, self-esteem, communication, social, and organisational skills.
  • Implement individual learning plans, intervention programmes, and agreed support strategies.

2. Assessment and Monitoring

  • Identify students who may require additional learning support and communicate concerns to the appropriate staff.
  • Assist in assessing students' academic and learning needs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and support provided.
  • Monitor individual student progress against agreed targets.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and provide feedback to teachers and parents when required.
  • Review support strategies and make appropriate recommendations based on student progress.

3. Classroom Support

  • Work collaboratively with classroom and subject teachers to ensure students receive appropriate support.
  • Assist teachers in differentiating lessons and adapting resources for students with additional needs.
  • Support students during lessons, assessments, examinations, and school activities where required.
  • Help create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Ensure that students are encouraged to participate fully in classroom and school activities.

4. Individual Education / Support Plans

  • Contribute to the preparation, implementation, and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Individual Support Plans.
  • Set realistic and measurable learning targets for individual students.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation related to student interventions and progress.
  • Ensure agreed accommodations and support strategies are consistently implemented.

5. Collaboration with Staff

  • Work closely with the SEN Coordinator, Head of Learning Support, school counsellor, class teachers, subject teachers, and other relevant staff.
  • Share relevant information regarding students' progress and learning needs while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in student support meetings and case discussions.
  • Support teachers in understanding and responding to individual learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the school's safeguarding team when concerns arise.

6. Parent Communication

  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with parents regarding students' learning progress when delegated by the appropriate school leader.
  • Participate in parent meetings when required.
  • Provide constructive feedback regarding students' achievements, challenges, and areas for development.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow school procedures when communicating sensitive student information.

7. Behaviour and Safeguarding

  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage students to develop appropriate social and emotional skills.
  • Follow the school's behaviour management and safeguarding policies.
  • Report safeguarding, welfare, or behavioural concerns through the appropriate school procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.
  • Ensure student safety and wellbeing during all assigned duties.

8. Learning Resources

  • Prepare and adapt worksheets, activities, visual resources, and other learning materials according to student requirements.
  • Maintain an organised collection of appropriate learning-support resources.
  • Use suitable technology and educational resources to support student learning.
  • Assist teachers in developing differentiated learning materials.

9. School Responsibilities

  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, professional development programmes, and student support meetings as required.
  • Carry out assigned supervision and other school duties.
  • Maintain punctuality, professional conduct, and appropriate workplace standards.
  • Follow school policies, procedures, Ministry of Education requirements, and safeguarding regulations.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties assigned by the School Principal or Head of Learning Support.

Pay: QAR2,500.00 - QAR3,000.00 per month

Work Location: In person
