Full job description
The Biological Sciences Program at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant position on a project investigating how the extracellular matrix regulates metastatic breast cancer progression.
The project combines molecular biology, cell biology, protein biochemistry, and cancer biology to uncover mechanisms of gene regulation underlying tumor progression and metastasis.
The position is funded for a period of 1 year and 6months with a possible renewal based on performance and continued funding.
- At minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology
- Documented and hands-on experience with qPCR, miRNA biology, and Western blotting techniques
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative research team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Flow cytometry
- Molecular cloning
- RNA interference (siRNA, miRNA, morpholinos)
- Cell migration and adhesion assays
- Bioinformatics or RNA-seq analysis
Position Responsibilities: The Research Assistant will:
- Maintain mammalian cell cultures under BSL-2 conditions.
- Perform RNA and miRNA extraction, end-point, and quantitative PCR.
- Conduct flow cytometry and Western blot experiments and quantitative protein analysis.
- Perform mammalian cell transfections and gene knockdown/overexpression experiments using electroporation and Lipofectamine-based transfection.
- Assist with flow cytometry experiments and data analysis.
- Carry out molecular cloning and plasmid validation.
- Collect and analyze experimental data using different tools and platforms.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, databases and experimental documentation.
- Help supervise and mentor undergraduate researchers.
- Participate in laboratory meetings and contribute to manuscripts, conference presentations, and reports.
